
Veterinary Assistant – Cardiology
Location: Concord, CA
Department: Cardiology
Schedule: Tuesday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Compensation: $25–$31/hour, plus $5.50/hr differential for any hours worked between 6pm-6am

SAGE Concord is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to support our Cardiology team in Concord. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced specialty environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and client service.
The Veterinary Assistant works closely with board-certified veterinary cardiologists, technicians, and hospital staff to provide high-quality medical support for patients undergoing cardiac diagnostics, treatment, and ongoing care.
Responsibilities
Assist cardiologists and technicians with patient restraint, handling, and treatment procedures
Prepare patients for diagnostic testing including echocardiograms, ECGs, blood pressure monitoring, radiographs, and Holter monitor placement
Collect laboratory samples including blood, urine, and other diagnostic specimens
Obtain patient histories and maintain accurate medical records
Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in condition promptly
Assist with catheter placement, medication administration, and sample preparation as directed
Clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment
Provide exceptional communication and compassionate support to clients during appointments and procedures
Ensure adherence to hospital safety, sanitation, and patient care protocols
Support workflow coordination within the cardiology department and collaborate with other specialty services as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
Previous veterinary assistant experience required; specialty or emergency experience preferred
Strong animal handling and restraint skills
Experience with laboratory sample collection
Excellent client communication and customer service abilities
Familiarity with Holter monitor placement preferred
Knowledge of basic veterinary nursing and patient care procedures
Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Compassionate attitude toward patients, clients, and coworkers
Flexibility and reliability with attendance and scheduling
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout scheduled shifts
Comfortable working in a clinical environment with exposure to animals, chemicals, and medical equipment
