Veterinary Internal Medicine Lead Tech

It is the responsibility of the Internal Medicine Lead Technician to ensure the needs of the patient are met and to ensure operational flow each day is smooth, positive, and successful. This includes proactively progressing the training of the technical team, addressing any skill concerns or interpersonal relationship concerns, scheduling staff appropriately for work load and volume, and working with the supervisor and manager to gain resources or direction as needed. Communication is paramount to the success of this role. Constant interactions with the staff, doctors, leadership, and other departments contribute to the strength of working relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
 
  • Staff Development/Scheduling
    • Be a positive role model for all staff and practice appropriate leadership skills
    • Maintain thorough communication with IM staff whether regarding patient care, operational changes, or otherwise
    • Ensure coverage is appropriate for work load through staff working schedules and re-coordinating to address last minute changes
    • Determine alternative forms of coverage for IM staff planned absences
    • Perform self-developmental exercises with the support of your supervisor and manager
  • Operations Development
    • Be able to perform in all aspects of the positions you lead
    • Update/create and disseminate SOPs and department policies as needed and review routinely for editing needs
    • Create and maintain an operations manual for IM
    • Communicate with supervisors and staff in other departments on protocols and procedures that impact their areas
  • Training
    • Implement and maintain a consistent training program with leveling for all new and current staff
    • Act as a mentor for all new IM staff providing moral support and feedback daily through training
  • Document Management
    • Keep all forms and templates up to date as needed
    • Review and revise all area goals with supervisor and manager as needed/asked
  • Reporting/Quantifications
    • Track, report and find solutions for common errors/issues in IM
    • Track quantification of key performance indicators
  • This job is responsible for directing and monitoring the workflow of the technical staff of the Internal Medicine department

Job Requirements:
  • Job allows employee to vary physical position or activity for comfort.
  • Must be able to:
    • Stand 60% or longer of an 8-hour workday.
    • Walk up to 50% of an 8-hour workday.
    • Sit 40% of an 8-hour workday.
    • Requires ability to lift up to 10 pounds continuously.
    • Requires employee to bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulder level frequently. Climb and twist occasionally.
    • Requires repetitive use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation
    • Requires all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.
    • Environment: 1. Greater than 90% of time spent indoors. 2. Temperature and humidity norms indoor. 3. Exposure to cleaning agents.
    • Exposure to electrical current.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Associate or bachelor’s Degree preferred; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician preferred
  • Extensive experience with anesthetizing patients preferred
  • Leadership Experience Preferred

Starting compensation is based on experience and ranges from $25.00 - $34.00 per hour.
