
$30–$36/hour + $2/hour Overnight Differential | Buckeye, AZ | Full-Time
Schedule: Choose a 4/10 or 3/12 schedule. Overnight shift is 7 p.m.–7 a.m. with one weekend day required. Additional $2/hour shift differential applies to hours worked between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center (AVECCC) is hiring an experienced Veterinary Charge Nurse to lead and support our overnight emergency and critical care team in Buckeye, AZ. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced veterinary professional who enjoys staff development, training, coaching, team leadership, and emergency hospital operations in a high-volume 24-hour veterinary environment.
Lead & Develop the Veterinary Team
Lead support staff by example and promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Mentor veterinary technicians, technician assistants, client service staff, laboratory technicians, kennel assistants, and other hospital support team members
Partner with the Training Coordinator to ensure new and existing employees receive effective onboarding and ongoing training
Participate in interviewing and selecting new support staff members
Review employee leveling criteria and benchmarks and support staff advancement
Conduct mid-year and annual performance reviews according to hospital protocols
Identify performance gaps and provide coaching, training, and follow-up to support employee success
Document training and coaching activities
Develop and teach department-specific training curriculum for ARISE Academy
Strengthen Communication & Team Engagement
Conduct beginning-of-shift huddles to align the team on patient care, staffing, and hospital priorities
Serve as a communication bridge between hospital leadership and overnight support staff
Hold regular check-ins with team members and participate in leadership meetings
Communicate hospital policies, procedures, and operational updates consistently
Identify opportunities for employee growth, development, and advancement
Recognize signs of employee disengagement and proactively address concerns that may impact retention
Foster a supportive environment built on accountability, respect, and collaboration
Support Emergency Hospital Operations
Monitor hospital areas and ensure staff are completing assigned responsibilities
Ensure appropriate veterinary medical techniques and hospital procedures are being followed
Reinforce exceptional customer service and help resolve client concerns and complaints when appropriate
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, OSHA requirements, and safety standards
Partner with the inventory specialist to maintain appropriate departmental inventory levels while supporting budgetary goals
Participate in the development and implementation of department policies and SOPs
Identify operational deficiencies and take a solution-oriented approach to improving hospital processes
Collaborate with the Leadership Team to maintain efficient, cohesive 24-hour emergency and critical care operations
Previous experience in a veterinary emergency, critical care, or specialty hospital
Veterinary technician or veterinary nursing background with demonstrated leadership experience
Experience mentoring, training, coaching, or supervising veterinary support staff
Strong understanding of veterinary clinical procedures and patient care
Ability to provide constructive feedback and address performance concerns professionally
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment

Ability to lead by example and foster a positive, accountable team culture
Commitment to continuing education and professional development
Veterinary technician license or certification preferred
