Licensed Veterinary Technician (Float) - ER & Specialty 
 

Pacific Northwest Pet ER & Specialty Center is a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital located in Vancouver, WA, just outside Portland, OR.

We offer advanced veterinary technology, including MRI, CT, and more, in a supportive work environment focused on wellness and mental health.

We are currently seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our team in a flexible, relief-style float role supporting both Emergency and Specialty departments. This position is designed to provide coverage across teams based on patient care needs, including PTO coverage, leaves of absence, and schedule gaps. This role is ideal for a technician who enjoys variety and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

COMPENSATION: 

This position has an initial hiring range of $30.00 to $40.00 per hour based on skillset, years of experience, and credentials. Placement within the range is determined by qualifications and specialty expertise, with the upper end typically reserved for candidates with advanced credentials (e.g., VTS).

We offer a competitive shift differential for team members working the hours of 6pm to 6am at $4.00 per hour on top of base pay along with competitive benefits, including continuing education, staff pet discounts, incentives for professional development, health insurance, and 401k. 

We also offer a weekend differential that is an additional $2/hr for any work between 12 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. 

Float Position Expectations 

This position functions as a float Licensed Veterinary Technician, providing support across Emergency and Specialty departments based on patient care and operational needs.

This role requires a high level of adaptability and the ability to quickly integrate into different teams, workflows, and case types. Department assignments may vary from shift to shift.

Shifts are determined by hospital needs and may vary or change to support patient care and operational demands.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Patient Care & Technical Support 

  • Provide nursing care, monitoring, and treatments for hospitalized patients 

  • Assist in triage and patient stabilization (IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, CPR)  

  • Support patient admissions, history collection, and discharges 

  • Perform a wide range of clinical and technical skills in accordance with the scope of practice for Licensed Veterinary Technicians in Washington State

Diagnostics & Procedures 

  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and maintain lab equipment  

  • Obtain radiographs with proper positioning and technique  

  • Assist with advanced diagnostics (endoscopy, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI)  

  • Assist in surgery, including anesthesia preparation, monitoring, and recovery 

  • Handle and administer medications and controlled substances in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements 

Communication & Operations 

  • Communicate effectively with doctors, team members, clients, and referring veterinarians 

  • Provide client updates, education, and follow-up care 

  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records  

  • Follow hospital policies, OSHA standards, and safety protocols  

  • Provide coverage across departments based on hospital needs 

  • Participate in on-call rotations and work weekends/holidays as scheduled 

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

  • Current Washington Licensed Veterinary Technician license (or ability to transfer) 

  • Minimum of 2 years veterinary experience; ER and/or Specialty preferred 

  • Ability to work safely in an MRI environment with appropriate training 

  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanor 

  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and prioritization skills 

  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, changing environment 

  • Team-oriented with a strong work ethic
