Veterinary Practice Supervisor (Surgery) – CVT/RVT/LVT preferred | $75,000 - $85,000 based on experience and skill set

Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists (CVSS) in Annapolis, MD is seeking a proactive and skilled Practice Supervisor to lead our daily clinical and technical operations. In this role, you will work hands-on alongside our dedicated surgical technicians and board-certified surgeons, fostering a collaborative culture, optimizing procedural workflow, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care and client communication.

Registered Veterinary Technicians with leadership, surgical, and/or anesthesia experience are strongly encouraged to apply!

Primary Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Support CVSS Mission and Values by fostering a culture of excellence in patient care and staff support.
  • Serve as a positive role model and encourage a constructive work environment.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with the MD and HD, presenting a unified leadership front to staff.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, guidelines, and recommendations by all staff.
  • Lead and manage special projects as assigned by MD/HD.
  • Oversee the Team Leads and PCCs.
Staff Management
  • Partner with the Clinical and DVM Talent Acquisition teams when hiring new staff.
  • Supervise and support the onboarding and training of new hires. (Add new employees to Ezy Vet, SmartFlow, Cubex, etc.)
  • Develop and oversee ongoing training, education, and professional development for existing staff.
  • Ensure hospital is appropriately staffed by overseeing the non-doctor staff schedule including approving PTO requests.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for Team Leads and oversee reviews for Technicians, Assistants, and Client Service Representatives (CSRs).
  • Ensure Team Leads are meeting expectations and the needs of the hospital.
  • Hold monthly Team Lead meetings to address concerns, provide leadership training, and summarize discussions for MD/HD.
  • Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with Team Leads to discuss professional development and performance.
  • Ensure Team Leads conduct regular one-on-one meetings with their teams.
  • Hold annual one-on-one meetings with all technicians for professional development and feedback.
  • Oversee employee scheduling, time management, and attendance, ensuring efficient utilization of overtime.
  • Enforce accountability and address performance, attendance, or behavioral concerns in partnership with HR.
Client Management
  • Oversee client flow to ensure efficient, professional, and timely service.
  • Identify and implement improvements to client flow and customer service.
  • Review and follow up on all non-medical client complaints to ensure resolution.
  • Ensure all client discounts are approved by the MD or HD.
  • Review and approve employee invoices.
  • Ensuring emails are read in a timely manner and that email is empty at end of day.
  • Quarterly supply billing for supplies bought from CVSS by other services.
Clinical Management 
  • Maintain a regular presence in the clinical area to support operations and staff.
  • Stay updated on best practices, tools, and techniques relevant to the hospital’s operations.
  • Manage various systems: Cubex, Ezy vet, etc.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with controlled substance regulations, including accurate drug log recordings.
  • Enhance care standards by developing training programs and refining hospital protocols.
  • Oversee inventory and equipment management and maintenance to ensure availability and functionality.
  • Work on special projects assigned by MD/HD.
  • Oversee account management (university labs, IDEXX, in-house lab equipment, anesthesia equipment. Log in information, billing, maintenance, software updates etc.

  • Prior Clinical Veterinary experience is required.
  • RVT / LVT / CVT preferred.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; an associate or bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a veterinary care facility (specialty practice experience preferred).
  • 3-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • RVT certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
