The Pharmacy Licensed Veterinary Technician supports veterinarians and hospital teams in all aspects of pharmaceutical care, including accurate medication preparation, dispensing, dose verification, controlled-substance documentation, advanced constant-rate infusion calculations, inventory management, and regulatory compliance. This LVT is responsible for creating safe, efficient, and organized systems for medications used in the hospital and dispensed to clients. This position requires advanced knowledge of veterinary pharmacology, excellent organizational skills, sound professional judgment, and consistent attention to detail.

Full-Time | 4x10s | Friday - Monday | 5pm - 3am
$27/hr

Schedule
  • Four- ten-hour shifts per week

Licensed Veterinary Technician (Pharmacy) Responsibilities
Medication Preparation and Verification
  • Accurately prepare, package, label, and dispense inpatient and outpatient medications as authorized by a veterinarian.
  • Verify patient information, medication orders, dosing calculations, concentrations, quantities, and administration instructions prior to preparation or dispensing.
  • Prepare medications, including reconstitution, dilution, injectable medications, and constant-rate infusions, using appropriate techniques and safety practices.
  • Perform appropriate double-checks for high-risk, controlled, or complex medications in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Maintain accurate medication documentation, labeling, and tracking within hospital systems.
  • Clarify incomplete, unclear, or questionable medication orders with the prescribing veterinarian before preparation or dispensing.
  • Provide medication-related instructions within the LVT scope of practice and refer clinical treatment questions or medication changes to a veterinarian.
Medication Tracking, Security, and Compliance
  • ​​​​​Maintain organized systems for the preparation, storage, tracking, distribution, and disposition of inpatient and outpatient medications.
  • Ensure medications are appropriately identified, stored, secured, and monitored throughout the medication-use process.
  • Handle controlled substances in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and hospital policies, including appropriate security, documentation, and access controls.
  • Maintain accurate medication and controlled-substance records as required by hospital policy and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and promptly report medication discrepancies, errors, safety concerns, suspected diversion, recalls, or other issues requiring follow-up.
  • Support pharmacy quality assurance through routine review of medication workflows, documentation, storage practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of medication-related procedures, tracking systems, audit tools, and other resources as needed.
  • Remain current on applicable medication regulations, controlled-substance requirements, recalls, and hospital policies.
Qualifications
  • Certified, Registered, or Licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT)
  • Emergency or specialty experience required 
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary environment
  • One to two years of veterinary clinic, emergency, specialty, hospital, or pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience with controlled-substance records, medication inventory, advanced calculations, CRIs, or automated dispensing systems is preferred.
