$35.00–$50.00/hour DOE + $9,000 Hiring Bonus

SAGE San Francisco is seeking an experienced veterinary professional to lead our Surgery team as a Clinical Lead. This hands-on leadership role combines advanced surgical patient care with team development, staffing, training, and day-to-day department operations.

We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Surgery Technician, or Lead Veterinary Technician who enjoys developing others while remaining actively involved in patient care.

As Surgery Clinical Lead, you'll have the opportunity to strengthen your leadership skills, develop RVTs and Veterinary Assistants, and help drive clinical excellence and consistency within the Surgery department.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants.
  • Remain hands-on in Surgery and Neurology while modeling strong clinical skills, patient care, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Train and mentor team members and routinely assess clinical skills, knowledge, and development needs.
  • Create department schedules and maintain appropriate staffing and coverage.
  • Review and approve timecards while supporting responsible management of payroll and staffing costs.
  • Partner with hospital leadership and the Surgery and Neurology team to improve workflows, SOPs, training, safety, and client experience.
  • Promote accountability, communication, collaboration, and a positive team culture.

What You Bring

  • Three or more years of veterinary clinical experience.
  • Previous Surgery, Anesthesia, Specialty, Emergency, Neurology or other advanced clinical veterinary experience strongly preferred.
  • Leadership, lead technician, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong clinical and technical veterinary skills, including accurate medication, CRI, and treatment calculations.
  • Ability to coach and develop Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants while providing constructive feedback and accountability.
  • Strong organization, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • California RVT license preferred but not required.
  • Experienced Veterinary Assistants with strong leadership skills who are working toward credentialing are encouraged to apply.
  • California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) required within 60 days of hire unless you hold a valid California RVT license.
