The Charleston Veterinary Referral Center is hiring a full- time Blood Bank Coordinator to join our outstanding Emergency team!

 

Compensation: $26-32/ hr based on experience and skill level

Schedule: First shift, 8am-6pm

About the Role: The Blood Bank Coordinator is responsible for the successful operation of the CVRC blood bank. The Coordinator will run the day-to-day operations of the blood bank, maintaining and recruiting canine and feline donors, working to promote and grow the Blood Bank internally and within the veterinary community. The Blood Bank Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a comfortable and safe environment for our donors and maintaining strict controls to ensure safe, high-quality products. This role will also act as an Emergency/Critical Care Veterinary Technician on the floor, outside of the Blood Donor Coordinator responsibilities. 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years working as a veterinary technician, preferably in emergency medicine. Applicants with LVT certification and Fear Free certification are preferred.
  • Excellent venipuncture skills, with a strong understanding of all basic veterinary knowledge, including restraint, phlebotomy, anesthesia and calculating medication dosages, laboratory equipment and procedures, etc.
  • Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members.
  • Flexibility in schedule and ability to travel multiple times a month during regularly scheduled hours.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for continued growth of the blood bank product customer base. This is accomplished by educational presentations, representation at veterinary functions and symposiums, and advertising. Organizes regular blood drives to facilitate growth in the donor population and ensure continual growth of donor pool.
  • Ensures that Blood Bank operates within AAHA and AABB guidelines. Proficient at using all blood bank equipment and performs regular maintenance and facilitates repairs as needed. Keeps current on all aspects of veterinary blood banking and transfusion medicine.
  • Main point of contact for all pet owners within the donor program. Schedules donation appointments to meet inventory needs and order requests. Coordinates doctor exams for all screening and donation appointments ensuring patients are healthy enough to donate.Educates owners on all aspects of programs requirements. Responsible for creating and maintenance of all medical records in relation to blood bank and donor program.
  • Creates and implements all policies and protocols regarding the donation process and product production. Ensures staff are following all established blood bank policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and production of quality blood products. Works with inventory manager to maintain appropriate levels of blood bank supplies. Works with management to staff blood bank personnel appropriately based on workload.
