Veterinary Assistant - Wilmington, NC - Full Time

Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral in Wilmington, NC is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to join their outstanding Emergency team!

Compensation: $21.75 - $28.00/hr, based on experience. Additional shift differential pay available for overnights. 

Schedule: Full-time, three 12-hour shifts.

As a Veterinary Assistant at ECVR, you will play a key role as the entire team's primary support. Every department relies on their assistant’s significant role in aiding with a variety of services to provide excellent client and patient care. Attention to detail and efficiency are essential in this fast-paced environment.

About You: An experienced Veterinary Assistant that thrives in an ever-changing environment, equipped to stay calm and knows how to react quickly during life-threatening circumstances. Position Responsibilities:  

  • Assist with patient care, monitoring, treatments, restraint, and routine diagnostic tests (i.e. Taking radiographs, running bloodwork, reading fecals)
  • Maintain inventory and stocking
  • Maintain & sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, exam rooms, and treatment areas of hospital
  • Administer medications under Veterinarian/Vet Tech supervision
  • Feed and bathe patients
  • Answer phones and help clients with their pets
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Experience of 1 year working as a veterinary assistant is preferred, but not required.
  • Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs.). Should be able to lift 40lbs on your own. Walking or standing for extended periods or time; frequently work in a bent or squatting position.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
