Veterinary Hospital Service Manager

WVRC (Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center) is seeking a Veterinary Hospital Service Manager to help lead and grow our well-established veterinary hospital. This opportunity will cover various specialty departments within our hospital in Waukesha, WI.

We are a 24/7 Emergency and Specialty Animal Hospital, dedicated to providing patients, clients, and referring veterinarians with the highest quality emergency and specialty veterinary medical care. WVRC offers a warm, friendly atmosphere where our main goal is to provide compassionate care to our patients and clients as well as offering outstanding customer service.

The Veterinary Hospital Service Manager is responsible for operationally focused activities that create the optimal client and employee experience. This is a full-time 100% Leadership position with administrative responsibilities.

Some of these responsibilities include:
Employment Life-Cycle:
  • Serve as mentor and coach for any/all staff requiring development and assistance in non-clinical matters.
  • Develop and supervise staff within their assigned departments and between other departments, ensuring adequate staff coverage with appropriate levels of expertise.
  • Ensure appropriate training for all staff including an exceptional understanding and delivery of client hospitality.
  • Set production and performance standards and follow-up through monitoring, assessing, reviewing and evaluating employee performance based on established standards. Recommend promotions, awards, and corrective actions as needed.
  • Resolve any misunderstanding or conflicts that may surface between staff members and medical professionals.
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring for open staff positions.
  • Other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Operational Effectiveness:
  • Assess and optimize administrative and operational workflows within the departments.
  • Engage in real-time resource allocation; develop staff schedules while managing labor against budget.
  • Maintain responsibility for departments financial performance (profit/loss).
  • Evaluate the needs of the department and recommend appropriate resources to meet those needs.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings and prepare agenda.
  • Supervise support staff personnel and participate in performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
  • Report Workers’ Comp claims.
  • Evaluate the needs for the department and recommend appropriate resources to meet those needs (equipment, staffing, etc.). 
Client Care:
  • Regularly assess the efficient and effective flow of clients and pets through the hospital while also ensuring proper care from arrival through discharge and follow-up.
  • Intervene and diffuse any situation that involves agitated, confused, scared or emotional clients and family members and/or employees.  Offer reassurance, compassion and understanding.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with referring veterinarians through business development outreach and follow up on client visits.

  • Veterinary industry experience is not required, but a comfort level working within a clinical setting will be necessary.

  • Cultivate a positive atmosphere, demonstrate a friendly and courteous attitude with all coworkers throughout the hospital to maintain a cohesive work team.
  • Maintain excellent communication skills to ensure professionalism and effectiveness in all interactions with clients and coworkers throughout the hospital.
  • Must have the ability to multitask, prioritize, and delegate.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills. 
  • Must be organized and detail oriented to ensure efficiency and accuracy in all transactions.
  • Able to work in high stress situations and exercise good judgment as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to develop employees, be a problem solver, outstanding communicator, and can maintain a positive working atmosphere that supports an exceptional client experience.
Schedule:
1st shift
Monday through Friday
As a leader you may receive the occasional off-hour work calls, during emergency situations.

Compensation:
Starting wage is $70,000
