Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and ICU team in Birmingham, AL. This is an opportunity to work alongside a collaborative team providing advanced emergency and critical care while continuing to build your technical skills in a specialty veterinary hospital.

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Technician on our Emergency and ICU team, you will help provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced specialty and emergency environment. Responsibilities may include:

• Provide hands-on nursing care and monitoring for emergency and hospitalized patients

• Assist with patient assessment, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures

• Safely restrain and handle patients using appropriate techniques

• Perform phlebotomy and venipuncture and assist with IV catheter placement

• Assist with diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, laboratory testing, and other clinical procedures

• Perform accurate drug calculations and administer medications as directed

• Monitor patients closely and communicate changes in patient condition to the medical team

• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation

• Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and team members

• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked patient care environment

• Work collaboratively with Veterinary Technicians, assistants, doctors, and other hospital team members

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant in general practice or emergency medicine

• LVT certification is prioritized

• Working knowledge of basic veterinary medicine, including restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, venipuncture, anesthesia, drug calculations, laboratory equipment, and laboratory procedures

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy emergency and ICU environment

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both clients and veterinary team members

• Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive, respectful, and supportive hospital culture

• Commitment to continued learning and developing advanced Veterinary Technician skills

• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
