Emergency - West Caldwell, NJ - Full Time

 
The Animal Emergency & Referral Associates in West Caldwell, NJ is hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency team!

Schedule:
Swing Shift = 2pm - 12am

Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to provide support to Doctors and Veterinary Nurses so they may continue to provide excellent patient care. The Veterinary Assistant must pay attention to detail and maintain very high standards of cleanliness and care. The Veterinary Assistant must be able to communicate well with coworkers to ensure overall accuracy and satisfaction. 

Key Responsibilities:

Procedures & duties that require technical skills/experience will be limited to Veterinary Nurses and Doctors ONLY.
  • Assist doctors and technicians with any and all needs, including but not limited to:
  • Maintaining clean, dry, and comfortable surroundings for all ICU, Surgery, ER, and Out-Patients
  • Safely and effectively restrain patients for procedures
  • Re-stocking and maintaining cleanliness of ICU, Treatment area, Surgery, Radiology, Ultrasound, hospital wards, exam rooms, laboratory & pharmacy areas
  • Laundry, sweeping, mopping, and general custodial responsibilities
  • ER/triage preparation, procedure preparation (lac repair, blocked cat, etc), OR setup, breakdown & disinfection, pack preparation, instrument sterilization, and equipment cleaning/maintenance
  • Assisting with basic treatment responsibilities: walking dogs, feeding patients, obtaining weights, cleaning cages and bedding, and preparing for in-patient procedures
  • Documenting accurately into patient medical records (treatment sheets, computer)
  • Become familiar with basic veterinary medical terminology
  • Become familiar with basic client education including: nutrition, parasite control, zoonotic diseases, home care, medication administration, post-operative care, and all other hospital recommendations/protocols, as directed by a veterinarian or technician
  • Cross-train to assist in other areas of the hospital as needed
  • Work a minimum of 1 year in this position for eligibility to advance
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
